The Sonora Desert is with
a plain of approx. 320.000 km² one of the biggest and varied
deserts on earth with a large extent of different animals.
It specifies the greater part of homophonous Mexican federal state
Sonora, which is the eastern area of the coast of Baja California
as well as the southeast area of Arizona and the adjoining south-western
area of California.
In the north the Sonora borders on the Mojave Desert and in the east
on the Chihuahua.
Because of the high degree of different plants and animals (mostly
cactuses and reptiles) the Sonora Desert is a nature reserve.
